Annotated Bibliography

Here is my first annotated biblioraphy

MLA Format
Bennett, Jessica . "What You Don't Know Can Hurt You." Newsweek 17 Dec. 2007: 10. LexisNexis. Web. 12 Apr. 2013.

Summary
This article states about a website known as JuicyCampus.com that allows people to post anything that they person so please about others. The cite is pretty much a gateway to tell peoples dirty secrets and keep it anonymous. This can effect the lives of the false rumors on this website and people are encouraged to stop using the cite all together because the founder will not take it down. He assures everyone that no laws are being broken and the website is not through universities so they have no say. This website can potentially ruin someones reputation with false accusations.

Assesment of Liability
This article will be good for my paper because its given insight into a website that actually has cyberbullying in a different way. The website being anonymous but putting up rumors to purposely hurt people and ruin their reputation. I tried to look at the website but unfortunately was taken down , but the founder has written a book based off of the website. In another article I will use in my paper will better explain what was happing on the site

Evaulation
I will utulize this article by explaining about what the site was and better branch off with another article on the same topic about the website and all the accusations and rumors that were put on the website.

Hip Hop Life

I picked this reading because it was very much part of my culture. I grew up with my uncle and mother listening to hip hop all the time. They listened to it because it had a story to tell about the struggle they were going through at the time. DeSean Robinson Walker said “To me, hip hop isn't a style. It's not the way you walk and talk. It's the way people live...” He brought it back to his life experiences like school systems being bad and magazines have statistics about ghetto neighborhood schools having low rate of getting out. I feel like people use music such as hip hop to help them cope with their situation and try to help make a better life for them, but some cannot get out of this life. At the end he says that hip hop gives hope to those who do not have any and a lot of people give up but some songs of struggle also have stories of how they overcome that struggle to help those who might think there is no way out.

Razia Jan : The Woman Who Changed My Life

At first I looked at this as extra credit for the class. As this woman started to speak it was not about doing this for my English class, it was more than that. This woman was touching my heart and she did not even know it yet. She explained that she wanted to help educate underprivileged girls in Afghanistan.  Razia wanted this project to grow and grow so these girls can be given a chance in life. She explained that women and young girls in Afghanistan were not usually educated. Razia explained one situation with a young girl being asked what she wanted to be and her response was “ an engineer” , someone asked her what exactly is that and she replied with “ I don’t know , but when I become an engineer I will come back and tell you”. The fact that these girls did have dreams of being something else other than a housewife is amazing.  Razia mission was to build a school for girls and later on build another school for boys.

She then showed a video that explained all that she has done for some families to make them proud of their daughters to what they had to wear and how the school was. The school has been teaching these young girls for six years now. Razia wanted to explain equality to these girls to help them be able to have a voice about what is going on in their life. An example of this was one young woman fought with her dad for six months which created an unhappy home because her father wanted to trade her for a younger wife instead of paying. He finally then agreed. I could never let my father do that to me. They struggle every day and I do not think I could ever go through what these girls do every day. I complain about walking in bad weather, but these girls walk for miles just to get their education and that is very inspiring. To build this school was a very long process getting people to help give money for such an important cause. She was already a part of the Rotary Club which was willing to always help and then they fundraised and made $80,000. The other donator was the author of “The Kite Runner”, who dedicated his book to the children of Afghanistan.  There are several different villages and four hundred females attend school that goes from first grade to ninth grade. In the future she wants to build institutions that they can go to after they finish ninth grade to study nursing or becoming a teacher. I believe this is an amazing idea and should be followed through. Razia Jan has influenced me so much in just twenty minutes and has me considering to start teaching overseas as my aunt has done for twenty-five years. She is more than a hero and I am so glad I got to meet and take a picture with this wonderful woman.

Interview Gone Bad/ Good Interview

I think this was bad interview because the first three people were not prepared. They were answering with yes or no , or at times didnt know the answer. They were very unprofessional  by putting their feet on the desk , touching the interview personal belonings. The last person in the interview showed what you should actually do when being interviewed by someone. They had a resume that wasnt all folded up and let them know he keeps on all the latest technology to better himself and getting a position.

Someone to Watch over Me

I chose this reading this week because it connected with me the most compared to the other one. I feel as though I connected with this author because I do the exact same routine every morning. I feel as though as soon as I wake up I have to see what was going on while I was sleeping. I start off with texts if I have them at the time and move over to Twitter and Instagram , and lastly Facebook. I feel as if I was ever disconnected from any of these social networks I would not be able to function at all and feel that I do not know anything. I feel like when the author said " just imagine if we could be this good in person. Online, everyone has bulletproof social armor"; it is true a lot of people do not have such good social skills so they use online as their form of communication. Others think because its virtual that they cant be touched after saying certain things on social networks which is also not true. An example of this would be the show "CatFish" , many people try to mold themselves and say things that they normally would have trouble saying in person. Most people use social networks as a way to communicate with friends and family who might not live close enough to hang out on the weekends.

It Takes a Tribe

I chose to do my blog on the reading " It Takes a Tribe".  I thought it was one of the interesting readings because it was based on college campus. I feel i connected with this piece the most because when first coming to college I did not know where or what anything was called when others talked to me. As the semester went on I had gotten so used to talking about different places on campus with nicknames that people at home would get so confused as to what I was talking about. I had to further explain to them what each nickname meant and where it was. I have gotten so used to Bridgewater I barely know anything at home anymore where if someone asked me here I would answer so quickly , this reading explain to me that bridgewater is my tribe that I have now joined and left my old tribe which I consider my hometown New Bedford.
